What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

CBC Distinctives

Confessional Integrity
We affirm and are committed to the biblical truths outlined in the Baptist Faith and
Message 2000 (BFM2000) as well as the historic Christian faith as expressed in the
1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith. These confessions serve as a faithful
summary of Biblical doctrine and help us maintain doctrinal unity and clarity.
(2 Tim. 1:13-14)

Southern Baptist
God accomplishes the salvation of His people by grace alone, through faith alone, in
Christ alone, and for the glory of God alone. He uses His people as His means of
spreading the gospel of eternal salvation; we, therefore, being Southern Baptist,
cooperate with other likeminded churches in supporting mission efforts worldwide.
(Phil.1:5)

The Ordinary Means of Grace
We believe that God builds and nourishes His Church primarily through the Ordinary
Means of Grace — the preaching of the Word, prayer, and the right administration of the
Ordinances (baptism and the Lord’s Supper). These are the God-ordained channels
through which He communicates grace to His people; therefore they are central to our
worship and life together.
(Acts 2:42; Rom. 10:17)

Expository Preaching
We are committed to the verse-by-verse exposition of Scripture, believing that the Word
of God is sufficient to feed, guide, and sanctify the Church.
(2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Believer’s Baptism
We practice baptism by immersion for those who make a credible confession of faith in
Jesus Christ. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality, and is administered only
to believers as a public declaration of their faith.
(Rom. 6:3-4; Matt. 3:16; Acts 2:41; Col. 2:12; Gal. 3:27)

The Regulative Principle of Worship
We seek to worship God in a way that is governed by Scripture alone. We include only
those elements that are commanded or clearly implied in the Bible — such as prayer,
the reading and preaching of the Word, singing, the ordinances, and giving.
(John 4:24; Heb. 12:28-29)

The Lord’s Day
We joyfully set apart Sunday as the Christian Sabbath — a day of worship, rest, and
fellowship. It is a gift from God to His people for their spiritual refreshment and growth.
(Rev. 1:10; Acts 20:7; Mark 2:27; Isa. 58:13-14)

Covenant Theology
We affirm a Baptistic understanding of Covenant Theology while recognizing the
continuity of God’s redemptive purposes. We believe that the new covenant is made
with the Church, and baptism is not applied to infants but believers alone.
(Jer.31:31-34; Heb. 8:6-13; Gal. 3:7,16,29)

Regenerate Church Membership
We believe that the local church is composed of those who have been born again by the
Holy Spirit and have professed faith in Christ. Membership is for believers only and is
accompanied by a commitment to live out the Gospel together.
(Matt. 28:19-20; Heb.10:24-25)

Plurality Leadership
Elders/Pastors and Deacons are the scripturally mandated positions of leadership in the
Church. Qualified leaders act as arbiters of the democratically selected goals and
values of the body; thus, the church is led by the Spirit, guided by the elders/pastors,
assisted by deacons, and governed by the congregation.
(1 Tim. 3:1-7; Acts 14:23)

Inter-Generational
We place high value on the health of families, and our Lord’s Day meeting is multi-
generational in that children aged 10 and older remain together with families in the
meetings to allow and encourage each family to function and grow together.
(Deut.6:6-7; Joel 2:28; Acts 2:39; Eph.6:1-4)

Gospel-Centered Counseling
We acknowledge the Bible as the chief authority on healthy, fulfilled living. As such,
pastoral counseling is first and foremost the application of Biblical truth to guide us
through our struggles. Therefore, the Bible is our final rule for faith and practice.
(2 Tim. 3:16-17)
